Caidyn Murray, owner of Pretty River Window Cleaning and 2024 participant of our Summer Company program has learned a lot as a new business owner and reflects on some of the core moments in his journey.

Can you tell me about your journey as an entrepreneur? What motivated you to start your business?
Starting a window cleaning business was a big leap for me, but it’s been an exciting journey so far. Starting out was certainly a learning curve. I faced challenges regarding market strategy, customer service, and different obstacles with cleaning on a job-to-job basis. However, with each job well done, I gained confidence and momentum.
A real motivation for me was to figure out a way to make money for school, create something of my own, and provide a service to the Southern Georgian Bay Community. Additionally, each client interaction accompanied with positive feedback pushed me forward to where I am today.
What services or products do you offer?
Pretty River Window Cleaning offers a professional clean of exterior and interior windows. This includes a cleaning of the frames, panels, sills, and screens. We provide this service to residential and commercial clients.
Who do you look up to for ideas and inspiration?
My parents have been a tremendous source of inspiration as I launched my window cleaning business. Throughout my childhood, I saw firsthand the challenges they faced in balancing household duties while juggling their own jobs and ensuring my siblings and I were involved in extracurricular activities. Despite these demands, they maintained a clean home and provided for us without fail. Both my mother and father are incredible individuals, and I aspire to be a role model for my children just as they have been to me.

Why did you apply for the Summer Company program? What are you hoping to get out of the program?
I enrolled in the Summer Company program to receive guidance on becoming a successful entrepreneur. My goals included acquiring insights into market strategy, enhancing digital sales skills, and establishing meaningful connections within the community. The program has been instrumental in equipping me with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in business.
Why South Georgian Bay? What made you start a business in this region?
I chose South Georgian Bay for my window cleaning business due to a noticeable gap in the market for reliable, high-quality services. The region’s great community spirit and stunning landscapes also played a significant role. The area’s natural beauty attracts residents alike, creating a demand for pristine windows. This combination of market opportunity, community support, and scenic surroundings made South Georgian Bay the perfect place to launch and grow my business.
What’s been the most rewarding aspect of building your own business?
The most rewarding aspect of building my own window cleaning business is the direct interaction with customers. Seeing their satisfaction once the job is completed to their delight is incredibly fulfilling. Beyond that, building connections within the community has been enriching.These aspects not only validate my hard work but also inspire me to continually improve and deliver exceptional service.
What do you consider to be your core strengths as an entrepreneur, and how have they contributed to the success of your business?
As an entrepreneur in the window cleaning business, my core strengths include exceptional interpersonal skills, a keen attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and proactive initiative. These qualities have played pivotal roles in my business’s success. My ability to connect with clients on a personal level fosters trust and loyalty, while meticulous attention to detail ensures consistently outstanding results. Coupled with a relentless work ethic and proactive approach to problem-solving, these strengths have enabled me to deliver exceptional service, build a solid reputation, and drive the growth of my business.
How do you celebrate achievements and milestones within your business?
Celebrating achievements and milestones in my window cleaning business is important to me. I celebrate by spending quality time with my family and friends, reflecting on our journey together and appreciating their support. Additionally, I use these milestones as opportunities to set new goals, ensuring continuous growth and improvement for both me and my business.
If your business had a theme song, what would it be and why?
The theme song of our business would be “So Fresh, So Clean” by Outkast. This song runs through my head constantly when I’m cleaning windows. I interpret this song from the windows point of view and the confidence they must have once they get a clean. I imagine they have the same feeling one gets when they get a new outfit or haircut.
