Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board administers Ontario’s workplace insurance for employers and their employees. The WSIB provides education and training, disability benefits, monitors the quality of health care and assists in early, safe return to work for workers injured on the job.

Almost all businesses in Ontario must register with the WSIB within 10 days of hiring their first worker, whether their workers are full-time or part-time. If you are required by law to register, private coverage is not a substitute. If you are not sure about whether or not your business needs to be registered, call the WSIB at 416-344-1000 or 1-800-387-0750.

Sole proprietors, partners and executive officers now also have the option of applying for additional insurance through the WSIB to cover themselves in the event of workplace injury.

For additional information, visit the WSIB website at www.wsib.on.ca.
