What is your favourite part about being an entrepreneur?
My favourite part of being an entrepreneur is the flexibility in time management and working my own hours. This allows me to make better use of my free time and be more productive during my work time.
What inspired you to start your business?
I have been interested in making videos and videography my whole life. I was inspired to turn it into a business when I was shooting a video of my family at Duntroon Highlands and was offered the opportunity to do some client work.
What services or products do you offer?
I offer videography, photography, and social media services for businesses, influencers, and other individuals or groups just looking to up their content game.
Who do you look up to for ideas and inspiration?
When looking for inspiration or ideas regarding videography I look up to Sam Kolder, a travel videographer and content creator. He’s great!
How did you come up with the name for your business?
The name of my business is pretty simple, but I see this as a positive thing as it is easy for people to remember. My name is Jerry Marshall, and I mainly provide videography services, hence the name: Marshall Video Services.
Approximately how many hours a week do you work?
Between shooting, editing, and meeting with clients, I spend approximately 40 hours a week on business related activities.
What’s one work-related skill that you’d like to develop, especially if you could do it easily?
One work related skill that I have been developing over time and continue to develop, is videography. This ranges from framing, lighting, editing, vfx, and many more factors that I need to incorporate into my products
What technology innovation made the most impact on your life?
Technology has made big changes in the way we live over the last thirty years. The biggest innovation that has impacted my life is the accessibility to cameras and other equipment that allow for individuals to create studio quality videos at a fraction of the cost. This alongside the constant innovation in video editing software to make changes to the footage and put it into a sequence, allows for a lot of flexibility to change or fix shots when you aren’t on scene.
What is your favorite candy or treat?
My favourite candy is without a doubt Reese’s pieces. There isn’t much to say about this candy, it’s just the best.
Is there a type of music genre you listen to when working/creating?
Whether I’m working/creating or just enjoying free time I am constantly listening to EDM (Electronic Dance Music) as it fills me with energy and inspiration to create, even on days where I’m particularly tired and/or unmotivated. I like to factor these songs into the final edits of my videos as it helps me portray exactly what I was seeing, hearing, and feeling when I was actually there. I am particularly a fan of Illenium and will frequently use his music to achieve that extra bit of excitement I strive for in my videos.
