Read on to learn more about Sean + his entrepreneurial journey.

Can you tell me about your journey as an entrepreneur? What motivated you to start your business? I was at a crossroads having been caught up in a round of layoffs at my last corporate job and felt I was missing something in my life. Luckily, I was able to find my way and focus on community and that left me wanting to work locally. I felt that the timing was right to venture on my own and with my kids mostly out of the house and on their own, I could focus on my own journey.

What services or products do you offer? My focus is connectivity and security, from cell phones to internet and phone systems. After you scratch the surface there are so many layers to a business and I can help clients with more than just that. As a broker, I can dig deeper into their process and how they communicate with their clients. There are a lot of great tools out there that are AI-enabled to assist in growing a business and I love sharing these resources with clients. I find a lot of business owners are looking for support that aligns with their goals therefore it’s imperative that I try to understand their business, and educate them on new and emerging technologies that will enhance their work and make them operationally more efficient.

Who do you look up to for ideas and inspiration? I listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot of books – finding most of my inspiration from those hobbies. Currently I’m reading Atomic Habits as it relates to the entrepreneurial stage I’m in. Starting a business from scratch requires good habits and I see this book lending itself to my personal and business life. In addition, I find my clients inspirational. One of my favourite parts of business is visiting client locations, sitting down to learn, understand and grow personally from each interaction.

What is unique about your business? What is something you want potential clients to know?  I have the capabilities to work with any of the carriers, a lot of times we get frustrated with our cell phone providers and I can assist in taking that pain away. My services allows for 1:1 support that helps you reduce bills, and costs and in some cases boost coverage. I have access to 1000’s of different solutions, and resources to support businesses to grow, adapt and become stronger with their technical presence.

Why did you apply for the Starter Company Plus program? What are you hoping to get out of the program? I was looking for support at just starting a company and I had no idea what that looked like and where to begin. I reached out to the SBEC and learned that the Starter Company Plus program existed for rookie entrepreneurs and came with guidance and moral support. I was hoping to find like-minded individuals that wanted to build and grow together.

What does success look like to you – when will you know you’ve achieved it? Years ago, success used to mean a completely different thing. Now I associate success with balance. I know that I can start and end my day in Thornbury, work with local business owners, show them how to grow, save money and in the end, enjoy my work day. It really is about community and building friendships.

Can you describe a significant challenge or change that you faced while building your business and how you overcame it? As I came from a very structured world and worked for a paycheck, I think understanding how cash flow works is very vital. At the beginning pay checks aren’t always consistent so managing my debt load and creating that structure now that I am on my own, it’s been a struggle.

How do you celebrate achievements and milestones within your business? I love to share my successes with my family, mentor and some past colleagues. It is important to share your success as it’s rewarding to get feedback from those that are around you to give you that encouragement.

What are you favorite local spots to visit on a day off? We love to camp! Memorial Park is one of our favourite spots to camp, swim, and visit. They have an off-leash dog beach and our 2-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog loves visiting that park and beach.

What’s your favourite way to de-stress after a long day of running your business? In the summertime I love to garden. it is very relaxing and find it a great way to focus on other things. When winter hits, you can find me at Blue Mountain skiing. It truly is my favourite place to be.

What do you read? What do you recommend? I love to read Crime Fiction and balance that out with motivational books. John Grisham is a favourite author and have enjoyed most of his books, specifically  ‘A Time for Mercy’. On the more serious side I love to read motivational or knowledge-based books and I always refer back to Malcolm Gladwell – Talking to Strangers – this book was very telling in how we don’t know each other when we think we do.
