Summer Company Spotlight – Riley Wilson of The Swim Station

When you’re young, summers are spent building epic sandcastles, eating too much ice cream and taking swimming lessons. Summer Company participant and certified life guard, Riley Wilson, has partnered with her friend Grace Abbott to bring private swimming lessons to the Blue Mountains through their business, The Swim Station. Each lesson is catered towards individual experience and is meant to instill confidence and comfort in both the swimmer and respective parent.

Located in The Blue Mountains, this absolute oasis provides the perfect launch pad for new and progressing swimmers to hit new milestones and have loads of fun.

The Swim Station is currently fully booked for the rest of the season, but be sure to join their email list for updates on availability for the upcoming season.

What is your favourite part about being an entrepreneur?
It feels really good to have full control of our business. We play a role in everything from lesson preparation, and marketing, to providing the lessons season-long.

What inspired you to start your business?
Post pandemic there continues to be a high demand for private swim lessons. The Swim Station exists to provide a top notch and personalized experience for our swimmers in a completely private setting. In addition, many pools in the area have had and continue to have long waiting lists making it tough to secure a spot.

What services or products do you offer?
We provide private swim lessons to all ages, stages and abilities but focus on levels between preschool and swimmer 6.

How are lessons structured?
Our lessons are one-on-one only. This allows us to give our swimmers full attention and instruct them on best practices.

What is the best way for people to get in touch with you and sign up for next year?
If you’re interested in 2024 lessons, send the Swim Station a DM on Instagram or email to theswimstation101@gmail.com. Spots fill up fast and this ensures that you get the information as soon as it’s confirmed.

Who is your biggest cheerleader?
We are so grateful for the parents of our swimmers. We have heard good things from many of them and their support means the world. Without their leadership and interest in our private swimming lessons, we wouldn’t have a packed season.

Why South Georgian Bay? What do you love about living and running a business here?
This is the perfect place to run a swim school. There are many children and families in this area who need to learn how to swim! The Swim Station is private but not too far from the main areas which makes it an ideal spot to run lessons. Any reason to spend our summer outside is a plus.

What are your favourite local spots to visit on a day off?
Press Juice, Press Market, and the Chipper will never let you down! The best smoothies, bowls and ice cream can be found at these locations.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
The best part of this job is seeing how proud kids are of themselves after learning new skills. It’ll never get old.

What is your favourite weekend trip?
Sauble Beach is always an awesome weekend trip! Endless fun to be had there.

Is there a type of music genre you listen to when working/creating? Does it evoke emotion?
There is ALWAYS clean pop playing during work hours at The Swim Station. This music gives swimming lessons a fun vibe and allows kids to sing and dance to music they are familiar with.
