Summer Company Spotlight: Nathan Bedard
Be on the lookout for Nathan Bedard Photography, one of Collingwood’s newest photographers. You might spot him down at the waterfront catching a sunset or around town capturing happy people at local events. No gig is off the table!
Nathan brings a ton of energy and passion to his new business, Nathan Bedard Photography, and we are very excited to have him join us for this year’s Summer Company program. With hopes to attend post-secondary for photography, Nathan is sure putting in the work and gaining real life experience in this trade that doubles as a hobby.

What is your favourite part about being an entrepreneur?
My favourite part about being an entrepreneur is having the ability to create flexible hours for my clients. This flexibility allows me to take on more projects which helps with the growth and development of my business.
What inspired you to start your business?
At the beginning of the pandemic I began capturing the local landscape and photographing the school sports teams. It was then that I realized how much I enjoyed taking photos and that starting a business wasn’t out of the question. Nathan Bedard Photography has since grown and I’ve had the pleasure of working with CollingwoodToday, Collingwood Pride, the Collingwood Paddling Club and Collingwood Soccer…just to name a few.
I offer both portrait and landscape photography and have recently started offering drone videography. On a micro level, I enjoy capturing family memories, checking shingle quality via drone, promoting local companies, and collaborating for special events with the local community.
Who do you look up to for ideas and inspiration?
My aunt is my biggest inspiration. She is a photographer and continues to share her tips and tricks with me. I recently had the opportunity to use her zoom ball which is essentially a glass sphere or crystal ball that photographers shoot through to create a fisheye lens look. It’s pretty cool! Pinterest also is a source of inspiration for upcoming photoshoots.
What’s your current camera kit? What is your favourite piece of gear?
My current camera kit is the Nikon D3500 including the 18-55mm, 70-300mm, 18-140mm and 50mm lenses. My favourite piece of gear is my DJI drone because it allows me to capture memories from different angles.
Why South Georgian Bay? What do you love about living and working here?
South Georgian Bay is an incredible location for any photographer. The waterfront, Blue Mountain and the surrounding trails are all prime locations for capturing perfect memories.
What is your favourite subject to shoot?
I love shooting family portraits. Being able to give tangible memories to my clients is something that feels good. There is so much love in the photos.
What are you favourite local spots to visit on a day off?
On a day off you can find me hanging anywhere by the water. I’m a competitive swimmer with the Collingwood Clippers and have always felt refreshed when in the water.
What’s your favourite product or service that you offer?
Lately, I’m loving any sports session because I find enjoyment in photographing fast movement activities. As a competitive swimmer, I know that all athletes want photo memories and action shots of the sports they love doing! If you are interested in booking a sports session, let’s chat!
What is something you are great at cooking?
I love whipping up fresh salmon from the Pretty River. The Pretty River is located just over the fence from my backyard and I love nothing more than catching a good fish, seasoning it with salt and pepper and grilling it to perfection.
What crazy activities do you dream of trying someday?
I’d love to try sky diving! It would allow me to see what my drones sees from the sky while allowing me to get a better idea of how the air works around the drone.
